Overview of bodybuilding drug Andarine

Andarine belongs to the class of drugs known as SARMs or selective androgen receptor modulators. It is also known as S-4 or 8. Andarine cuts fat; builds muscle mass and increases endurance to work out more in the gym. Thus, it has become popular among bodybuilders even though it has not been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Andarine is also being used to treat muscle wasting, osteoporosis, and prostate mass in prostate cancer patients.

Origin of Andarine

Andarine was developed by Kaken Pharmaceuticals, a Japanese company, as GTx-007. GTX Inci later manufactured it. The primary compound used in making andarine sarm is non-steroidal antiandrogenbicalutamide. The drug was initially developed to treat osteoporosis, prostate cancer, prostate hypertrophy, breast cancer, and muscle wasting.

Mode of action

Body cells contain proteins called androgen receptors which bind with androgens such as testosterone. However, there is a fundamental difference between andarine and testosterone. Andarine does not bind with the androgen receptors in all the cells since it is a selective androgen receptor modulator. Instead, it selectively binds with the androgen receptors in bone and muscle cells, thereby stimulating them to multiply fast.

Andarine doesn’t affect the reproductive tissues, unlike conventional steroids. It does not break down into estrogen and dihydrotestosterone. The absence of side effects such as testosterone suppression, high blood pressure, and increased estrogen levels make this drug more preferred among bodybuilders than anabolic steroids.

It must be noted that clinical trials have never proved the effects of Andarine.


Andarine promotes muscle development and prevents muscle loss. This leads to a gain of lean muscle mass. In an experiment, Andarine was given to castrated rats for four weeks. It increased muscle mass in the rats like dihydrotestosterone but did not cause prostate enlargement, as is the case with DHT. The rats gained lean muscle mass 12 weeks after castration.

Andarine can increase bone density and strength and also repair bone fractures. Andarine given to castrated male rats and female rates with ovaries removed increased bone mineral density and strength. This action of andarine makes it suitable for treating osteoporosis. It also prevents falls by increasing muscle mass which prevents fractures.

Andarine decreases the level of high-density lipoproteins. It also reduces extra body fat. In an experiment conducted on female rats without ovaries, Andarine reduced body fat and increased muscle mass.

More evidence and clinical trials are required to confirm the efficacy of Andarine concerning the benefits mentioned above.

Dosage information

There is no clinical data to support Andarine s4 sarms, and the drug has not received approval from any statutory body. Thus, there is no information about safe dosage. However, dosage information can be gleaned from feedback received from people who are using this drug.

The common method of taking andarine is dividing the dosage three times a day. 25-30 mg per day is the preferred range for people wanting to take this drug at low levels. 50-75 mg per day is another common dosage preferred by people wanting to take slightly higher levels of this drug. However, to prevent side effects such as high stress and blurred vision, a lower dosage is recommended.

Andarine should be taken five days a week. The course recommended runsfor 10-12 weeks. This cycle ensures that the user does not suffer from side effects such as blurry vision.

Andarine comes in the form of pills or liquid. Pills come in a specified dosage and need to be swallowed with water like any other drug. On the other hand, the liquid needs to be measured to get the correct dosage and putunder your tongue.

Side effects

Andarinemay cause blurry vision or difficulty in distinguishing between colors when the rods and cones are affected. This type of side effect happens when higher doses ranging between 50-75 mg of Andarine are taken. Other side effects include nausea, headache, fatigue, weakness, and low levels of testosterone. Thus, a lower dosage of 25-30 or 30-35 mg per day is recommended to avoid such side effects.

The side effects are not durable and do not cause organ damage. The side effects disappear once the consumption of the drug is discontinued.
