Colorado
As an avid skier or snowboarder, you’ve definitely visited or considered visiting one of the incredible ski towns in Colorado, like Aspen and Vail. Because of their incredible mountain ranges, you can find an altitude that has snow all year long – yes, even in the summer! Utah
If you’re old enough to remember the 2002 Winter Olympics, Salt Lake City will forever be synonymous with winter sports. While there are about half the ski resorts that there are in Colorado, many would argue the experience is actually better in Utah (but you’ll have to be the judge of that). It’s also often more affordable, and there are a number of great resorts that don’t have the same crowds you’ll see at more popular, well-known destinations. Some of the best snow sports in Utah can be found at Snowbird, Deer Valley, and Park City, the latter being one of the largest in the state. Park City also has a great little town to explore when you’re off the slopes, full of great shops and restaurants.
Vermont
If you’re on the East Coast, you’ll probably be familiar with Vermont as a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding. If you’re looking to stay in the Northeast, the town of Burlington or any of the surrounding areas are the perfect place to hang your hat. Here, you’ll be close to all of the great resorts – Stowe Mountain Resort, Killington, and Stratton are just some of the great places to visit if you’re looking for an epic ski experience. Plus, those Burlington houses for sale are full of that sweet, New England charm.
New Hampshire
Right next door to Vermont is New Hampshire. Often overlooked as a Northeast ski destination, New Hampshire also has its share of great resorts. There are actually just under 20 resorts scattered across the state, so no matter where you choose to live, you’re just a quick drive away from a great destination. California
You may not think of California as a snowy destination, but the Golden State is actually one of the top 5 states in the country when it comes to great skiing and snowboarding. Heavenly, Squaw Valley, and Kirkwood are just a few of the best ski and snowboarding resorts in the state, all located in a cluster along the Nevada border. It’s rare that, in one state, you’ll find people skiing on one side and surfing on the other, but if you’re a fan of both, this may just be the best home for you.
