    How To Improve Skin Elasticity

    MaxwellBy MaxwellNovember 20, 2021Updated:December 25, 2021No Comments4 Mins Read

Our skin tends to lose its natural bounce and luster as we age due to a drop in collagen and elastin production- two structural proteins responsible for firm skin. According to research, we lose about 1% of collagen yearly after we turn 20, and the percentage dwindles post-menopause causing our skin to sag. While we’d all love to blame the loss of skin elasticity on age, factors like stress, lifestyle habits, and U.V light exposure also play a big part. Aging is unquestionably inevitable, and there’s yet to be a magical elixir discovered to ward off the process altogether. However, the effects of aging on your skin can be slowed down; we look at five approaches to enhance and restore skin elasticity.

    1. Collagen boost

Since your body is falling back on collagen production, you might want to supplement the deficit, literally. Invest in collagen-based skincare products, makeup, and oral supplements to stimulate your body’s natural production and give your skin that collagen boost it needs. Seek out ways to stimulate cell regeneration and collagen reproduction to get that healthy skin firmness back.

    2. Sun blocking

Don’t skip the sunscreen. U.V rays are a great contributor to saggy skin, and while avoiding the sun may seem like a good plan, it isn’t practical- you can’t stay indoors forever. Besides, you need that vitamin D. Make a point to invest in a broader spectrum sunscreen; wearing sunscreen with a high SPF will shield your skin from direct U.V rays when you step out. You can follow the sunscreen up with a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.

    3. Skincare routine

Getting started on a skincare regimen is one way to keep your skin elasticity in check There are tons of skin rejuvenating products on the market today. Retinol, retinoids, and hyaluronic acid cut the best skin elasticity boosters recommended in the skincare world. Ensure you research the best cleansers, toners, moisturizers, serums, and masks for skin firming before running to your local supply beauty store. Better yet, reach out to your dermatologist for advice and insight.

    4. Lifestyle change

You’re what you eat- this statement couldn’t be more accurate when it comes to skincare. Diet, quality sleep, smoking, and pollution are some of the factors you’ll have to adjust if you’re looking to improve your skin’s elasticity. Load up on antioxidants, gluten-based foods, fresh fruit, and vegetables instead of junk which speeds up collagen breakdown.  Substitute the alcohol with water; hydration does wonders to your skin. Additionally, adjust your sleep schedule to fit in at least eight hours of sleep at night- this is when your body is at rest, allowing your skin cells to regenerate.

    5. Clinic treatments

Aesthetic doctors and dermatologists have introduced clinical treatments to improve skin elasticity. From cellular level chemical peels to Botox and hormonal therapy, clinical treatments will have you looking at a wide range of options. The upside of clinical treatment is the rapidly visible results. One can, however, ask their aesthetician to schedule their visits to single sessions, monthly or yearly, depending on their skincare needs and the type of treatment.

    To sum up

Skincare is broad; there’s a variety of solutions, products, and treatments to look into. Skin elasticity is just a scrape off the whole cake. Good skin never goes out of fashion, and if you’re looking to improve your skin, elasticity is a good start. Admittedly, embarking on a skincare journey sooner is the best way to maintain healthy skin elasticity. If you’re thinking about long-term results, consider making the switch to a healthier lifestyle. Consistency is key with skincare, don’t expect to see the results overnight; you have to put in the work.
